As a staff person at Third District - I continually look for how we can serve our members. A number of new RN graduates are looking for work. This is a tough time to seek hospital employment in the Twin Cities. Other jobs are equally challenging.
My hope is that new graduates nurses will join in the discussion on what they are looking for and where they have tried look in regards to employment.
What temporary agencies have you tried? What about home care? What are you doing to keep your skills sharp? Are you volunteering anywhere? What about taking a job as a nursing assistant and then transfering into a nursing job? Who is having success at finding employment?
Check out the Robert Wood Johnson report on Newly Licensed RN characteristics. It found that 66% of RNs work 12 hours shifts. And 62% report being verbally abused at work. The study included 3,000 newly licensed RNs in 35 states about their individual characteristics, work setting, attitudes toward work and job opportunities in other organizations.
