The Nursing Issues Committee, in their quest to highlight the image of nurses as volunteers who reach out and serve their communities, has accepted an opportunity to provide service for the Karen Wyckoff Rein in Sarcoma Foundation. This organization’s goals are threefold: to raise funds for research leading to a cure for sarcoma cancers (the third most commonly diagnosed cancer among children); to educate physicians and the public about sarcomas; and to support sarcoma survivors and their families. The majority of the proceeds of the Foundation are to support the Karen Wyckoff Sarcoma Research Fund, the primary Sarcoma fund of the University of Minnesota Masonic Cancer Center. On July 20th, the Rein in Sarcoma “Party in the Park” will be held in Como Park. This event features food, music, silent auction, carousel rides and much, much more. Third District Nurses will be helping with the Sarcoma Family Picnic. A free picnic for sarcoma patients, survivors, loved ones and for those who have lost a loved one to sarcoma. The picnic will be located at the East Picnic Grounds in Como Park. We will work in shifts so you can sign up for one shift and when you’re done you will have the opportunity to enjoy the rest of the event.
