Third District Nurses Salary Surveys

An ongoing component of the mission of 3rd District Nurses is to provide annual salary data to and about Advanced Practice Registered Nurses.  Population is obtained annually from the Minnesota Department of Nursing, and in 2007 the nurse population consisted of 187 Nurse Midwives, 1,963 Nurse Practitioners, 449 Clinical Nurse Specialists, and 1,170 Nurses Anesthetists - a total of 3,769 APRNs registered to practice in the state of Minnesota..

A survey questionnaire is sent annually to this population (CNM, CNP, and CNS - CRNA are not surveyed.)  with a request to complete the questionnaire and to return it to 3rd District Nurses for analysis.  The challenge is to obtain responses of sufficient size and 'randomness' to reflect accurately the characteristics of the entire APRN population.

In prior years the mail was used for distribution and data gathering.  In 2007 the WEB was utilized, and the benefits were evident!  E-mail addresses were provided by the Minnesota Board of Nursing for over 91% (2,374 of 2,599) of the APRN population.  547 (21%) were returned, and these provided the basis for the  analysis and presentation of the data contained in the survey document.

The resulting document contains charts and graphs that summarize results from both full-time and part-time respondents to the survey. Where relevant and consistent, results from prior year data are included for comparison.

• Average salary by area of practice

• Median hourly salaries

• Average hourly salary paid in first year

• Average hourly salary by location of practice

• Average hourly salary by indicated employer

The Salary Surveys are sponsored by the Advanced Practice Registered Nurses Interest Group of 3rd District Nurses Association. They are produced and compiled by 3rd District Nurses, who are wholly responsible for their content and presentation. The 2007 edition is available now at a cost of $9.95 for district members and 3D Privileges participants and $19.95 for non-members.   The 2008 edition will be published in May, 2008.
